SynapSeq 3.1.0 Release

We're excited to announce SynapSeq 3.1.0, bringing powerful new features for more natural brainwave entrainment and enhanced flexibility in audio generation.

🎵 New Transition Types

Experience more natural brainwave entrainment progressions with three new transition types:

  • ease-in - Exponential acceleration, starting gently and speeding up
  • ease-out - Exponential deceleration, starting fast and slowing down
  • smooth - Sigmoid curve for the most natural, organic transitions

Previously, only the linear steady transition was available. Now you have precise control over how your brain adapts to frequency changes during sessions, enabling more sophisticated and comfortable entrainment progressions.

📄 Structured Format Support

You can now define your sequences using industry-standard formats:

  • JSON - Perfect for programmatic generation and web APIs
  • XML - Ideal for integration with enterprise systems
  • YAML - Human-friendly format for easy editing

Access these formats using the new CLI flags: -json, -xml, and -yaml.

🔄 Preset Reuse with @presetlist

The new @presetlist global option enables you to:

  • Share preset definitions across multiple sequence files
  • Maintain consistency across different sessions
  • Organize your presets in reusable libraries

This is perfect for building coherent meditation or focus session libraries.

🌐 HTTP/HTTPS Support

Load resources directly from the web:

  • CLI: Load sequence files from URLs
  • @background: Stream background audio from remote sources
  • @presetlist: Load preset files from web repositories

This feature opens up possibilities for shared preset libraries and online sequence collections.

🔧 Integration Examples

New Python integration examples in the scripts/ directory demonstrate real-world use cases:

  • generate_json_sequence.py - Programmatic JSON sequence generator with CLI parameters for automated audio generation
  • streaming_server.py - HTTP streaming server with interactive web-based player interface

These examples showcase two integration patterns:

  • Offline generation: Automate sequence creation with custom parameters
  • Real-time streaming: Serve audio on-demand via HTTP with a modern web UI

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed audio clipping in @background for improved audio quality
  • Corrected -quiet option behavior to properly suppress non-error output

🔧 Improvements

  • Enhanced status output: Better tracking of sequence generation progress
  • File size limits: Added safety limits to prevent memory overflow
    • Text format (.spsq): 32 KB max
    • Structured formats: 128 KB max
    • Background audio: 10 MB max
  • Man page generation: New man target in Makefile for offline documentation
  • Content-Type validation: Safer HTTP/HTTPS file loading

📚 New Sample Files

We've added comprehensive examples demonstrating all new features:

  • Transition examples: sample-transitions.spsq
  • Preset reuse examples: Multiple files showing @presetlist in action
  • Structured format samples: samples/structured/ - Complete examples in JSON, XML, and YAML formats
